Rivers
Water is an essential resource for regional development. Taking into account its cycle and its natural territory, and preserving its quantity and quality is an asset for their development.
There are 12 river basins in France, including 7 in mainland France. In each of these basins, a Basin Committee coordinates consultation between water users, elected representatives and the State on the management of water resources and aquatic environments.
The territory of the CC Vallée de la Haute Sarthe is located in the Loire-Brittany Basin, which is managed by the Loire-Brittany Water Agency (AELB).
It supports elected representatives in their projects and investments, offering them solutions for sustainable and resilient water management.
Adopted for 6 years by the Basin Committee, the Master Plan for Water Development and Management (WDM) is a planning tool designed to ensure the management of water resources and aquatic ecosystems. It also defines the actions to be taken to improve water quality.
The SDAGE is associated with the Flood Risk Management Plan (FRMP).
An offshoot of the DSAGE, the Water Development and Management Scheme (WDMS) is a local management plan drawn up by a Local Water Commission (LWC) representing all users.

HAUTE SARTHE BASIN SYNDICATE
The SBHS, which looks after the rivers and streams flowing into the Sarthe Amont, has 650 km of watercourses.
A diagnostic study of 350 km of watercourses was carried out in 2019. It was 80% funded by the AELB.
This audit identified the various problems facing the Haute Sarthe basin.
Development work will have to be considered.
